Overview
San Miguel Power awards up to $46,500 in college and vocational scholarships each year to students who are dependents of SMPA members. Up to eighteen graduating seniors may receive awards through the program.
Who is eligible
Dependent children of San Miguel Power Association (SMPA) members who are graduating high school seniors are eligible to apply.
Important deadlines
- First deadline (Basin Electric and Alltricity scholarships): January 30, 2026
- Second deadline (SMPA collegiate & vocational and Tri‑State scholarships): March 9, 2026
Scholarships offered (amounts and deadlines)
- Basin Electric Scholarship — $2,500 (Deadline: January 30, 2026)
As part of Basin Electric Power Cooperative’s member benefits, SMPA nominates one graduating senior from its membership to receive a $2,500 college scholarship. The award may be used at any accredited post‑secondary institution.
- Alltricity Scholarship(s) — $1,500 to $3,000+ (Deadline: January 30, 2026)
The Alltricity Scholarship Foundation funds awards for students pursuing studies related to the electric energy industry, including engineering, business, information systems, plant/line/distribution technology, line worker training, or other closely related curricula. Applications for Alltricity scholarships must be submitted online.
- San Miguel Power Association Scholarship — $3,000 (Deadline: March 9, 2026)
- San Miguel Power Association Vocational Scholarship — $3,000 (Deadline: March 9, 2026)
- Tri‑State Generation & Transmission Scholarships — two awards of $500 each (Deadline: March 9, 2026)
How to apply
You may complete the PDF application electronically and email it along with your essay and supporting documents to alex@smpa.com, or print the form and deliver it to an SMPA office location. In every case, applications must be received by the listed deadline to be considered.
