P.E.O. STAR Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Philanthropic Educational Foundation International
The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship is a one-time financial award of $2,500, specifically designed for women in their senior year of high school. The scholarship must be utilized in the academic year immediately following high school graduation, otherwise, it will be lost. Each candidate is endorsed by a local P.E.O. chapter.
Criteria for Eligibility
A female candidate can be considered for the STAR Scholarship if she meets the following criteria:
- Has received a recommendation from a local P.E.O. Sisterhood chapter
- Is a citizen or a legal permanent resident of the United States or Canada
- Maintains a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Demonstrates exceptional leadership, academic achievements, involvement in extracurricular activities, community service, and shows potential for future success
- Intends to enroll in an accredited postsecondary education institution in the United States or Canada, either full time or part time, in the fall of the academic year following her high school graduation
Applications from individuals who meet these eligibility requirements will be assessed on a fair and unbiased basis, without regard to race, age, national origin, religious affiliation, disability, or P.E.O. affiliation.
Procedure for Application
A student will be interviewed by members of a local P.E.O. chapter before they decide to endorse her.
Once a local chapter endorses a student, the P.E.O. Executive Office will send the applicant an email with instructions on how to access an online account to complete her part of the application. This must be completed and submitted within 30 days of receiving the email.
The application requires information about the student's extracurricular and community service/volunteer activities, a 700-word essay, two letters of recommendation, and an unofficial high school transcript (up to 11th grade/junior year).
Recipients of the scholarship are announced annually by April 30, and all applicants and recommending chapters are notified.
