Introduction Kentucky Women in Agriculture (KWIA) supports women pursuing careers in agriculture by offering a scholarship to full‑time students enrolled in Kentucky institutions. The award is intended for women who are preparing for agricultural careers and need financial assistance to continue their studies.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must identify as female and be a resident of Kentucky.
  • Must be a full‑time student at a Kentucky college/university or an affiliated veterinary school, entering at least the junior year (third‑year undergraduate) through graduate level study.
  • The academic program pursued must be related to agriculture.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. An up‑to‑date college transcript must be submitted.

Application requirements

  • A personal statement (500 words maximum) explaining your career goals in agriculture and how the scholarship will help you achieve your academic objectives.
  • At least two letters of recommendation that speak to how the applicant meets the eligibility criteria.
  • Documentation of financial need (as described by the applicant).
  • Submit your current college transcript.
  • Winners must provide a tuition invoice and next semester class schedule before funds are released to confirm enrollment.

Award details and disbursement

  • The scholarship total is $1,000, paid in two installments of $500 (one payment per semester).
  • Recipients will receive written notification from Kentucky Women in Agriculture by July 30, 2026.
  • Personal information will be kept confidential; however, the recipient’s name will be posted on the KWIA website by July 30, 2026.

Selection process Applications will be evaluated using the following point system:

  • Desire to work in agriculture: 40 points
  • Financial need: 30 points
  • Academic record: 20 points
  • Extra‑curricular activities: 10 points

Additional conditions

  • Recipients will be asked to provide a photo and sign a release permitting publication of their image and name.
  • Scholarship winners will be invited to attend the KWIA annual meeting for recognition.
