Alabama Academic Elite Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by University of Alabama
Overview
To be eligible for an Academic Elite Scholarship, a student must be admitted into the Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program (WUFP), previously called the University Fellows Experience. Continued receipt of the Academic Elite Scholarship requires maintaining membership in WUFP. Complete program details are available on the Witt University Fellows website. Each year eight Academic Elite Scholars are selected from a candidate pool that typically exceeds 1,000 applicants. Scholarships are awarded for a four-year period.
Eligibility
- Must be accepted as a member of the Dr. Robert E. Witt University Fellows Program (WUFP).
- Must remain a WUFP member to retain the scholarship.
Awards
Seven Academic Elite Scholars will each receive:
- Four years of tuition coverage
- One year of on-campus housing at the regular room rate
- An undergraduate supplemental scholarship of $9,000 per year for four years
The top Academic Elite Scholar will receive:
- Four years of tuition coverage
- One year of on-campus housing at the regular room rate
- A $9,000 undergraduate supplemental scholarship for year one
- A $19,000 undergraduate supplemental scholarship for years two through four
- A one-time undergraduate allowance of $5,000 for research or international study (available after completing one year at the University)
Scholarship stacking and limits
- An Academic Elite Scholarship cannot be combined with any previously awarded merit scholarship or scholarship package; the student will receive the higher of the awards.
- The total of institutional scholarship funds, including any combination with the faculty/staff Educational Benefit, cannot exceed the cost amounts shown on the Student Financial Aid Cost of Attendance webpage.
- This institutional limit does not affect outside sources of aid such as veteran benefits, PACT, external agency scholarships, privately funded scholarships, federal grants, or loans.
- If a National Merit Finalist is chosen as an Academic Elite Scholar, the supplemental scholarship amount will be reduced by the value of the National Merit Scholar stipend.
Housing scholarship definition
- “Regular room rate” refers to the largest room option available in a given residence hall. For example, if Riverside, Lakeside, and Ridgecrest offer four-person suites as the largest option, the housing scholarship will cover the cost associated with that four-person suite. If a different hall’s largest standard option is a double room, the housing scholarship value will be the cost of the double room.
