Jerry Clark Memorial Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees
Background
In 1966 the Hawaii Government Employees Association created the Charles R. Kendall Scholarship and Education Fund to commemorate Charles R. Kendall’s lifelong commitment to advancing the welfare of public employees across Hawaii. Today the fund supports three distinct scholarship programs—the C.R. Kendall Scholarship, the Russell K. Okata Scholarship, and the Union Strong Scholarship—and also provides continuing education grants to help members advance their professional skills. Since its founding, HGEA has awarded more than 2,000 scholarships and grants to members and their dependents.
Who is eligible
Scholarships and grants are open to HGEA members and their dependents who are enrolled, or plan to enroll, full-time in post–high school study. Eligible institutions include universities, colleges, community colleges, vocational and trade schools, and other accredited postsecondary programs. The sponsoring member must have maintained good standing with HGEA for at least one year.
How to apply
A single application form covers all three scholarships. Note that applicants for the C.R. Kendall and Russell K. Okata Scholarships will be required to provide additional information beyond what is needed for the Union Strong Scholarship.
