Edward G. and Helen A. Borgens Elementary Teacher Scholarship — summary

Membership and relationship requirements
- DAR membership is generally not required. Only specific scholarships carry DAR-related requirements:
- Lillian & Arthur Dunn Scholarship: Requires the applicant to be the child or stepchild of a dues-paying DAR member. The DAR member’s National Number must be provided on the application to verify eligibility.
- Madeline Pickett (Halbert) Cogswell Nursing Scholarship: Requires the applicant to be a DAR member, eligible for membership, or a descendant of a DAR member. The DAR member’s National Number must be submitted.
- Stepchildren: Stepchildren of DAR members are eligible for the Lillian & Arthur Dunn Scholarship; they must supply the stepmother’s National Number on the application.
Chapter sponsorship
- DAR chapter sponsorship is no longer required for scholarship applications. Applicants may, if they wish, contact a local DAR chapter for assistance with their application.
Types of eligibility and documentation
- Eligibility varies by scholarship. Some awards are open to many types of students (e.g., recent high school graduates, students currently enrolled in undergraduate programs, or those accepted/enrolled in graduate school).
- Other scholarships specify additional documentation, such as proof of current enrollment or a letter of acceptance in a nursing or medical program, verification of DAR relationship, a tribal ID, or evidence that the student is pursuing a particular discipline (for example: music or chemistry).
